Job Description

The Vice Chancellor for Development at Pepperdine’s Graziadio Business School is responsible for building prospect and donor relationships, raising financial support, and increasing the donor base for the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School (PGBS). This position focuses primarily on major and principal gift donors with a capacity to make gifts of $100K to $5M. The Vice Chancellor will also partner with the alumni engagement team at the business school to strengthen relationships with alumni that lead to generosity. The success of our mission to strengthen lives for purpose, service, and leadership depends largely on strong financial support from donors who enable us to provide the facilities, programs, faculty, and opportunities necessary to provide stellar, mission-driven programs for our students. This position also helps to build enduring alumni loyalty in keeping with the University's strategic plan.

Duties

  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major and principal gift donors/prospects of 120 and conduct 180+ substantive visits annually. The focus is primarily on those with a capacity to give $100K to $5M annually.
  • Develop, organize, and oversee the fundraising strategy and programs for the Graziadio Business School. Collaborate with the Annual Giving team, Alumni Affairs, and other colleagues to create effective strategies, inspire success, track and analyze fundraising metrics, and consistently meet or exceed individual and team key performance goals. Develop best practices and strengthen the pipeline of future donors.
  • Identify prospective and new members for the PGBS Board of Advisors. Work with the Deans and the Assistant Director of Graziadio Board Operations to manage the board.
  • Conduct ongoing stewardship activities to further enhance the relationship between donors, Pepperdine University, and the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.
  • Identify prospects for planned gifts and corporate & foundation gifts in conjunction with faculty, the Planned Giving department, and Research, Grants, and Foundation Relations department.
  • Utilize the Pepperdine advancement database, The Raiser's Edge, to research historical records and communications with donors and prospects, and document new actions and proposals.
  • Develop and manage annual travel and expense budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 7 plus years of progressively responsible major gift fundraising experience.
  • A proven track record that demonstrates solid success soliciting and closing six-figure gifts with some experience closing seven-figure gifts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, persuasion, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create strong relationships with key faculty and staff and comprehensively understand their programs and opportunities for major gifts.
  • Ability to collaborate with fundraising colleagues in central advancement and other schools and programs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate the vision, mission, and core values of Pepperdine University.
  • Strong organizational skills and a high level of accountability to performance metrics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
  • A general level of comfort dealing with high net-worth individuals, an ability to maintain discretion, and a high level of confidentiality, when dealing with sensitive internal matters and with significant donors and benefactors.

Preferred:

  • MBA or other advanced business degree preferred with ten or more years of major gift fundraising experience, including in an institute of higher education and preferably in a school of business and management.
  • An individual with outstanding professional qualities who models collaboration, and has organizational sensitivity to build support, confidence, and consensus from all facets of the business school.
  • Understanding and experience with the underlying principles and techniques associated with planned giving and estate gifts.

Qualified individuals should be able to show respect for workplace differences, and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

This is a Regular, Exempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $178,500 - $210,000 per year

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package .
