CT Tech Assistant at Tufts Medical Center summary:

The CT Tech Assistant provides administrative and clinical support in a medical imaging environment, ensuring smooth operation of CT exam scheduling and patient care processes. Responsibilities include patient registration, insurance verification, coordinating with physicians and departments, and assisting with patient transport and safety measures. This entry-level role requires basic medical knowledge, clerical skills, and the ability to follow standard procedures under supervision in a healthcare setting.

Hours: 40 hours weekly

Job Profile Summary  

​ This role focuses on providing administrative and business support to the organization in order to achieve operational goals. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following General Administration duties: Produces documents, collects, records, sorts and files information, handles mail, prepares routine reports, makes travel arrangements, arranges appointments, responds to inquiries, data entry, and operates office equipment . An organizational related support or service (administrative or clerical) role or a role that focuses on support of daily business activities (e.g., technical, clinical, non-clinical) operating in a “hands on” environment . The majority of time is spent in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision . An entry level role that typically requires little to no prior knowledge or experience, work is routine or follows standard procedures, work is closely supervised, and communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation.

This position performs/supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital . Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.  

 

Job Description  

Minimum Qualifications :  

1. High school diploma or equivalent.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities : The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list . Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.  

 

1. Applies knowledge and principles of Universal Precautions to minimize exposure to/spread of infectious organism .  

2. Correlates the outpatient physicians’ orders with the CT exam performed to help Ensure insurance coverage and reduce denials .  

3. Follows through and obtains updated pre-cert numbers when necessary; logs this information in Paragon system .  

4. Works collaboratively with Central Scheduling department to obtain proper insurance information and pre cert information .  

5. Contacts physician’s offices to obtain written orders for exams when necessary.  

6. Provides front line customer service by coordinating front desk staff and functions, including visitor reception and patient registration, service recovery, answering calls at the main telephone console, patient appointment scheduling.  

7. Serves as customer service ambassador by being the first contact with patients or visitors, either in person or by telephone  

8. Assists with the department workflow by entering orders, scanning paperwork, escorting patients to and from the exam room(s) as needed, filling supplies, IV contrast, etc .  

9. Looks up lab values for outpatients for the next day and logs this information on outpatient schedule for Radiologist and Technologists use  

10. Uses Central Transport scheduling system to arrange transportation to and from department . Transports patients interdepartmentally if needed .  

11. Identifies patient verbally by name and DOB and checks ID bracelet .  

12. Applies knowledge and safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety .  

13. Make basic observations and report them to staff .  

14. H andle s body fluids using universal precautions, includes assisting with bedpans, emesis basins, etc. as needed .  

15. A ssist s in lifting, positioning, and ambulating patients .  

 

Physical Requirements:  

1. Frequent standing, occasional sitting, walking, and lifting of 30-35 lbs.  

2. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate radiology equipment.  

3. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations; observe patients, read monitors and documents, and hear audible equipment alarms.  

 

Skills & Abilities:  

1. Knowledge of medical terminology and Computed Tomography areas.  

2. Clerical skills .  

3. G eneral knowledge of RIS and PACs system .
