The Career Tax Consultant is able to assist clients and state/federal agencies to ensure tax compliance when reporting changes to various taxing jurisdictions. Tax compliance may include, but is not limited to: business acquisitions, reorganizations, mergers, divestitures, and payroll amendments. The Career Tax Consultant will evaluate the tax impact of employee movements and offer recommendations. They must be able to analyze, compute, and apply for refundable taxes that have been overpaid due to wage base restarts. Responsibilities include coaching, training, and mentoring team members in tax return amendments and IRS processes and procedures; investigating issues posed by internal and external clients; performing special projects and related duties; conducting historical client audits including Wage base/Professional Employer Organization (PEO) recoveries and tax rate experience revisions; completing all applicable audit paperwork; following up with agencies for paperwork status and/or confirmation of refund or credit; accurately completing complex tax impact analyses; producing invoices and milestone trackers for revenue recognition; providing technical guidance and consulting expertise to clients; working with clients to collect and analyze UC tax data to resolve disputes and develop beneficial solutions; providing leadership and direction in critical or escalating tax matters; and assisting in preparation of appeals/arguments on behalf of clients to rectify UC tax issues. Required experience includes CPA certification, advanced knowledge of unemployment tax and federal IRS processes, 3+ years of payroll or unemployment tax experience or a Finance/Accounting degree with 3+ years of professional experience, project management/tracking experience preferred, strong multitasking, organizational, and prioritization skills, ability to comprehend technical information, analyze data and recommend solutions, excellent communication skills, good decision-making capabilities, mathematical aptitude, experience with corporate software systems, ability to present data clearly, and a desire to develop others. Preferred skills include proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, knowledge of Google G Suite and Workfront, solid business writing skills, comprehensive knowledge of business unit applications, and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
