STATUS: Full-Time, M-F
COMPENSATION: $23-$26/hr, DOE
Are you passionate about culture, community, and creating meaningful experiences for seniors? Friendship Center is looking for a vibrant, bilingual changemaker to lead Herencia Latina, our unique program designed for older Latino adults living with dementia, and to serve as the lead of our community outreach efforts. This role is a dynamic opportunity to blend culture, memory care, and joy into everyday connections. You’ll lead spirited group activities in Spanish, build trusted relationships with families, and represent Friendship Center out in the community, ensuring more people know about and feel welcomed into our life-changing programs. Qualifications
Criminal background check (Required)
Bilingual Proficiency – spoken and written – in English and Spanish (Required)
Must pass a background check and health clearance (Live Scan, TB test, etc.) (Required)
Experience working with older adults or individuals living with dementia preferred
Committed to serving diverse communities
Skilled in group facilitation, relationship-building, and public speaking
Organized, flexible, and comfortable managing multiple priorities
Passionate about dignity in aging and community-based support
Familiarity and experience with technology
GENERAL SUMMARY
Friendship Center is a licensed adult day program dedicated to providing compassionate care, connection, and joy to older adults, particularly those living with dementia, and support to the families who love them. Serving all of South Santa Barbara County, we offer innovative, culturally-attuned programming designed to enhance quality of life and preserve dignity for every participant.
We are seeking a warm, organized, and community-minded individual to lead Herencia Latina, our bilingual, culturally tailored program for older Latino adults, while also serving as our outreach champion. This is a dynamic, people-facing position that blends program facilitation, family engagement, and community collaboration.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
Lead day-to-day facilitation of Herencia Latina, including planning activities, music, conversation groups, and wellness programming in Spanish
Foster a welcoming, dignified space that honors culture, memory, and community
Support participants with memory loss using a strengths-based, person-centered approach
Collaborate with staff to integrate Spanish-speaking members into broader Friendship Center programming
Serve as a trusted point of contact for Spanish-speaking families, including intake support, care planning, and ongoing communication.
Community Outreach & Engagement
Represent Friendship Center at community events, health fairs, and partner meetings
Build and sustain relationships with local organizations, churches, clinics, and cultural groups
Coordinate outreach and enrollment efforts specifically for Spanish-speaking families
Develop culturally relevant outreach materials and social media content in collaboration with the Marketing & Events Coordinator
Maintain and grow a network of volunteers and community collaborators, including guest presenters and performers
Work closely with the Program Manager and Family Enrollment Director to support seamless service delivery
Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and interdisciplinary planning
Maintain and keep up-to-date records on StoriiCare platform, noting member preferences and interventions for successful wellness outcomes.
Provide assistance to coworkers and volunteers in executing activity programs or meetings by providing support or acquiring resources.
Collaborate on planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating quality activity programs that focus on physical, emotional, cognitive, and social functioning.
Work with other staff to plan and implement special events and community outreach.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Fluent English and Spanish communication skills, both verbal and written, required.
Experience with organizing and conducting programs or classes for older adults is highly desired.
Ability to work with a diverse group of seniors, caregivers, staff and community members
Ability and interest in furthering education and training to improve skills and enhance knowledge
Proficiency in using computers, iPads/ tablets and smartphones, as well as basic communication and social media software (Zoom, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Familiarity with service systems and knowledge of areas of impact with regards to older adults, including social, financial assistance, health, and wellness, and long term care.
Work experience that includes office support skills including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, email, Internet, and telephone communications preferred.
Must have a valid “class C” California Driver’s License, reliable vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
Proper use and knowledge of body mechanics and safety mechanics.
