This position will deepen connections with our donor community and ensuring they see the impact of their support. The chosen candidate will develop and implement innovative strategies for donor recognition, reporting, and communication to enhance donor loyalty and retention. Hours: Monday – Friday Exempt Status: Non-Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time status: Full-Time Salary Range: $38.46 per hour; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge. Reports to: Associate Vice President of Development Operations and Services Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/Development Position Duties & Responsibilities Essential Functions of the Job The specific responsibilities for this role fall into these primary areas: Donor Engagement Design and implement a stewardship strategy that aligns with the Whittier’s goals and enhances donor engagement. Manage an acknowledgement matrix, ensuring every donor is properly acknowledged for their support. Develop personalized stewardship plans for major donors, including tailored programs, communication materials, newsletters, impact reports, and thank-you messages. Oversee recognition initiatives such as donor walls, annual reports, and special recognition events, donor appreciation days, and behind-the-scenes tours that honor donor contributions, and showcase Whittier’s success. Find opportunities to highlight donors and why they give to Whittier College. Reporting Prepare and maintain a strategic annual plan to ensure ongoing and meaningful donor acknowledgement program. Prepare and maintain a database of compelling narratives highlighting the use of funds, acknowledging philanthropic impact and the outcomes achieved. Prepare and deliver personalized major donor impact reports for each endowment, fellowship and scholarship donor which highlights and acknowledges the impact of the donor gift/endowment, overall gifts and endowment investment results to Whittier College. Work closely with the Development division to integrate stewardship efforts into overall fundraising strategies. Share impact stories and other collateral with gift officers ensuring they have the tools necessary to properly and regularly acknowledge donor impact. Database Management Interpret data from Finance and Financial Aid Offices, maintain accurate donor records and track stewardship activities in the College’s CRM system. Analysis Analyze donor data to identify trends and opportunities for deeper engagement. Make recommendations to advance major gift strategies to help overall fundraising efforts. Position Specifications and Requirements Previous Experience Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, or related field. 5+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or nonprofit management. Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Qualities and Abilities An ideal candidate for this position will have: Communication Skills: A high marketing and communications IQ, fascinated by messaging and donor motivation. Effective communication—both written and verbal—is essential for articulating the organization's mission, crafting compelling Impact reports and donor acknowledgment materials. Organizational Ability: Thrives in managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Integrity and Ethical Judgment: A commitment to transparency, confidentiality and accountability in stewardship activities is crucial. Adaptability and Innovation: The ability to adapt to changing environments, leverage emerging technologies, and apply innovative stewardship strategies. Data-Driven Decision-Making: Experience and skills using donor databases and CRM tools to track donor giving and stewardship activities. make informed decisions based on analytics and data insights. Microsoft Office Suite proficiency a must. Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: The ability to cultivate and steward donors at all levels, ensuring long-term donor retention and satisfaction through meaningful and personalized engagement efforts. Collaborator: A collaborative mindset, a team player who works cross-functionally within development division such as alumni relations, foundation, advancement services, and annual giving. Passion for the Mission: Genuine belief in the mission and values of the College, which is essential in connecting with donors and cultivating lasting relationships. Knowledge and Education The candidate must possess exceptional organizational skills, strong written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, keen attention to detail, proven negotiation and mediation skills, and a creative and positive attitude toward the advancement of Whittier College. Requires ability to handle multiple assignments with minimum supervision while meeting strict deadlines. Should have fundraising success working during a comprehensive campaign.
